Summer is here!

We can't believe it is the final theme of the school year.

It also happens to be one of our favourite themes in room 4.
As you might have guessed, our theme is 'summer'.

We have transformed our Aistear stations and we have been having lots of fun!

Take a look:

Our role play corner is the beach. Here we have some children who are all dressed up and ready for a swim in the deep blue sea!

Small world : there has been lots of exploring going on in the sandpit. Some of the boys were even digging for treasure!

Having a rest on the beach in our canopy while reading a book about sharks

Playing snap

Making ice cream pots in junk art

Fishing from the canopy - and enjoying a spot of reading at the same time!

Collecting sea shells from our fishing net - no fish caught yet ...

Dressing up at the beach - hats, swimming costumes and life jackets are among the many items of summer clothes in our role play corner

And so our time in room 4 is coming to an end....

We have had a great time in senior infants. We have learned lots, made great friends and plenty of memories.

We hope everyone has a safe summer and we will see you all in September!

Slán go fóill!

Our School Tour

School Tour

We went on our school tour to Mellowes in Athboy.
The trip was a big success. The children had a wonderful time. There was a great variety of activities for the children. Have a look at some of our pictures to see what we got up to:

There were relay races

Parachute games

Swings and slides

Bounce houses

A disco and talent show

A memory tree - the children used their fingerprints to create a memory card with our school name on it. This card is hung on the memory tree for all to see.

The children also planted a seed and learned how to make compost in the greenhouse

And of course there was the very exciting bus journey to and from Mellowes:

The gym

Hobbies and pastimes

We are learning about hobbies and pastimes in room 4.

We have set up a gym in our role play corner to promote exercise and an active lifestyle.

Yesterday we went on a visit to our local leisure centre where we met Dean one of the gym instructors.

The children learned how to stretch their muscles, they played balancing games, practiced throwing and catching as well as jumping, skipping and hopping.

We also got to take a tour of the gym and saw machines such as treadmills, bikes and cross trainers.

This was a fantastic trip for the children and we are very grateful to Clondalkin leisure centre for letting us visit.

The chicks

We had a special delivery of eggs from the farm on Monday the 9th of April.

This was the start of our hatching project in Scoil Mhuire.

We watched and waited for our eggs to hatch!

Finally we saw a tiny crack, and then a little chick emerged!

We now have 2 chicks in Scoil Mhuire. We named the chicks Max Jnr and Cheeky Beaky

We were very lucky in room 4 and got to hold our chicks today:

Easter

We had an easter egg hunt before we went on our holidays. The easter bunny left lots of clues around the school:

Thankfully we found the hidden treats and enjoyed every single one of them!

Team work

In room 4 we believe working as part of a team is very important!

Here is a look at some of our collaborative art work that we completed as part of our topic 'Spring':

Plants and the garden centre

Topic: Plants

Our trip to the garden centre was a great success. The lovely staff in Newlands showed us around, we got to know the names of different flowers and plants. A highlight was seeing all the fish in their tanks!

We decided to open up our own garden centre in room 4:

We were also reading the book 'Jack and the beanstalk'. Our next set of pictures shows some of our fabulous art work. We were drawing beanstalks:
